Psalm 46 is a powerful song. It begins with these hope-filled words:
“God is our refuge and strength,
An ever-present help in trouble.” (Ps. 46:1)
The psalm concludes with words that are familiar to most of us:
"Be still and know that I am God.” (Ps 46:10)
But, the refrain, or chorus found in the middle and at the very end, is a tremendous reminder for all of us!
“The Lord Almighty is with us.” (Ps. 46:7; 11)
What comforting words these are as our community and the world continue to deal with this pandemic. “The Lord Almighty is with us.”
No matter who you are, no matter what race you may be, what nation you come from, young or old, rich or poor, strong or weak, celebrity or not, this virus has put us all on the same level. We are in this together. Rich Mullins, the songwriter who wrote “Our God is an awesome God,” was interviewed in 1997 and said: “You are not alone in the world. You are part of an ensemble.”
Indeed, we are an ensemble, an orchestra of humanity, created by God and He is the conductor. As the psalmist said, “Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations…” (Psalm 46:10). God is deserving of our praise and our submission, even in this troublesome time. Find the peace He offers, even in this storm. He will be exalted, no matter what. He is with us as the one and only Almighty God, no matter what. We can find our strength and hope and help in Him alone, no matter what. We’re in this together as an ensemble formed by the Almighty Himself. Play your part today by seeking His wisdom and guiding hand, so that God can use you for His glory. He still reigns on high, and will not forsake us, no matter what. Be still and know that HE is God and WILL be with us, not matter what!
