Today, May 15, is National Chocolate Chip Day. Yep, this is the day for all chocolate chip lovers to celebrate! From cookies, to ice cream, to muffins and beyond, make sure you pause today to celebrate! The chocolate chip cookie is so popular in the U.S., that it accounts for over a quarter of all cookies sold and consumed by Americans. We do love our chocolate chip cookies! They are a sweet treat few can resist!
Something even sweeter that we can and should share every day are words of affirmation and encouragement! The Bible speaks of gracious words impacting our lives in a soothing way. We find it in Proverbs 16:24...
“Gracious words are a honeycomb, SWEET to the soul and healing to the bones.” (NIV)
I also love the Living Bible phrasing of this verse:
“Kind words are like honey – enjoyable and healthful.” (TLB)
There are enough terse, vulgar, contentious and harmful words being spewed out every day by someone. Whether it be in a conversation or on social media or on TV or radio, we can easily hear words that upset and stress us rather than provide healing. As believers, it’s up to us to set a different tone.
Kind and gracious words are often in short supply, but may we, as followers of Christ, change the dialogue. And what better day to do that than this very day! Chocolate chip cookies may not be healthful and healing, but throw in some gracious and kind conversation and enjoy the benefits of the sweetness that brings healing to the soul!
